Letter to Bellingham

Dear Gov.Bellingham,

I write to you today as a concerned citizen of our society to address an important opinion on Hester Prynne's right to have custody of her child,Pearl. I have seen the way Hester shows affection towards her child and I think that Hester should keep her regarding how she takes good care of Pearl. Even though she wears the Scarlet Letter on her bosom she is still a mother and a mother can not be displaced from her child. This is why I ask of you to take time and listen to what I have to say.

Although Hester committed adultery and a child was born of such a sin, Hester loves Pearl and may it be that in the beginning she did not show appreciation of her I have witnessed a change in her emotions towards her child. When she talked to the father of Pearl she mentions to him that he will love Pearl, even though she is an odd child, just as Hester loves her dearly(139). Illustrating a great deal of affection towards Pearl Hester articulates how much she loves Pearl. Meaning that if Hester loves Pearl this much she has a right to keep her within her custody and be with her daughter.

Another reason why Hester should keep Pearl is that if she did not want Pearl then she would of let officials take her away from her, but she did not let them and the minister Dimmesdale helped her case so Hester may keep Pearl along side her.Hester thanks Dimmesdale and she appreciates what he did for them and she reminds him of what he did when she is presenting Pearl to Dimessdale(142). If Hester did not care then why would she present Dimmesdale to Pearl? Implicating the significance of how much she is grateful to him for helping her keep her daughter and any one willing to do anything to keep their child deserves to hold on to them until it is time to let go of them.

Thank you Gov.Bellingham for your time and consideration of my opinion on Hester's case of custody of her child. I think you should think of this case very deeply and make the right choice. Again I thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
L.M.G

Hester Prynne's character is strong, estranged, and gloom.
Level 2:
-Why is sowing the only comfort Hester has?
-How does Pearl respond to her mother at times?
-What does Hester think of her daughter?
Level 3:
-Is there such a thing as a "perfect society"?
-What is the significance of being "perfect"? Can we be?
-What is a theme that can be derived from the text?

Personal Response

>The role for women in times of slavery was to be used for work as the usual but also to be used for sex. The slave owners would take advantage of the slave women and have them carry a child and when that child was born and raised up to a point. That child would be sold for as much money as he or she was worth. Which means the women in slavery was like a business to the white men.

Always was strong willed just like her mother, Clara, and had the ability to overlook situations and plan ahead of them in order to be prepared. Everything she did was to benefit herself and her children or family. In this passage Always recognizes that Karma is taking place because of the news that Loretta is having a child by her son, Sephus. Loretta wants to kill the baby but Always lets Loretta suffer through the birth just as Always has suffered her whole life.

J. California Cooper includes this scene/passage as a moral or metaphor. Here Loretta asks her half-black sister, Always, for help when in reality she belittled her. Illustrating one never knows who that person could be that may assist you with your plea for help. In other words treat everyone with respect and “do onto others as you would like them do onto you”.

It affects the overall questioning because only white people were free and all other people of different color were not. Now in this life time everyone is free, or not? Freedom is defined differently by a diverse multitude of people and every person has a differed vision or belief on what being an American is. Most people believe it is being free and happy but why cant it be something else?

This piece of text reveals that everything starts off with little knowledge of things but as time passes people progress to learn more and make life better. Same as America it started small and progressed to be the best country to live in. As well as the people here, Americans, progressed from being unhappy to becoming happy in t his beautiful country.

Although maybe it would be for the best I do not want you to live the harsh life of a slave but I also never wanted to lose you like this. Here I stand before your grave to say that I love you and that I hope you'll be much happier when you reach heaven. I swear that I will not let you down Plum I will get out of this miserable life as a slave and I will never forget you my dear sister. I love you Plum.

Character to Character Letter

Dear Sun,
I write to you to inform you that I have been sold to a new master named Doak. Plum wasn't sold though and she tried to come along with me. She ended up hiding under the wagon that carried us. She was dragged for a long time and eventually bled to death. Before finding out the new master raped me and now I am pregnant with his child. Master Doak brought home a wife her name is Sue. Sueis a nice woman I like her you would too. Sun how I wish that I was with you my brother. I miss you and Peach. Please brother you need to get me out of here. Take care now and write back soon.
Sincerely,

Euology for Ms.Fletcher....

Always being fueled with anger and revenge, but yet even though she felt sad for her sister, Plum, Always knew that Plum didn't have to live the painful life of being a slave anymore. Having to bury your own little sister for a cause that did not involve her in a literal way is something no one can bare to have to do. If it was me to bury my own sister in such a way I would bow to always keep her in my heart and I would never forgive those who ended up doing this to her. I would be filled with a vendetta just as Always feels at this moment in time. No one deserves a fate like this and especially to bury their own flesh and blood like Always had to do for Plum.
